Episode Summary[]

Lisan's cookout haunts Fanel[]

We rejoin Raquel Underscotch right when she finds Throden Sauriv and Irpaks in the guise of Tendra Dippins at the Leaky Tankard tavern in New Doladon. When Throden tells Tendra that Irpaks sent them, she pulls a knife on him, but eventually believes the Lizardfolk. He and Raquel try to find out some things about Tendra, but she keeps her cards close to her chest.

After a while, Lisan returns with a giant cactus and Fanel. The monk looks worse for wear, walking straight to the bar and buying alcohol for the very first time. Raquel keeps everyone lubricated with shots and ale.

While Lisan prepares a nightmarish feast out of cactus, newt and scorpions, Fanel fails to explain to his companions that he can understand the death cries of the critters Lisan is killing for his meal. His cooking attracts a rowdy gaggle of children, who watch everything the Tiefling does with curiosity.

When Tendra hears that Fanel is distraught, she mixes him a technically illegal, black concoction, which the Elf downs the moment she has put it down. He is immediately snoggered. While this is happening, a gentleman in a black cape enters the tavern with a message for Tendra. She takes it to the back of the bar to read it alone:

Welcome back. We need to talk. Meet at midnight in our spot.

After a while, Lisan serves his meal: a giant cactus, with newts and scorpions impaled on spikes, which are to be eaten with long forks and dipped into a bowl that seems to contain molten cheese. All but Fanel try it, and like the taste, but Fanel tries one of Throden's mushrooms with some hot cheese.

A night at the Leaky Tankard[]

Fanel soon passes out, his face landing on Tendra's bar. Throden takes him to a room to sleep. In the common room, Lisan plays his viol all night for the patrons, entertaining them well. Raquel remains at the bar, and when Lisan takes a break, she has a heart-to-heart with him.

Raquel wants to learn the truth about why he joined their group. Lisan explains that his visions, which are sent by the Traveller (so he believes) have told him that he would join a group of adventurers on their quest.

Raquel has other ideas: she says they are not a proper group, and that she certainly has not committed. To the contrary, she will leave as soon as her business is concluded. Lisan asks her to let him prove to her that he can be her friend, like the others. She however says she's neither friends with him or the others, and is not planning on hanging around long enough for this to change. Lisan remains adamant, but he leaves her at the bar to go back to playing his viol.

Irpaks has a secret meeting[]

As the night moves on, Lisan and Raquel stay up until the bar closes and then go to bed. So is Throden, who sleeps at Fanel's side through the night. When the bar quiets down, Tendra Dippins sneaks out for a secret meeting somewhere in the city, in an abandoned house.

When Tendra arrives there, someone else is already present: it is Irpaks.

Memorable Quotes[]

Throden, "Would you like [a mushroom]?"
Tendra, "Naw I'm alright. I don't make a habit of eatin' things off of strangers."
